Charging times, home charging tips, and how to identify BMW plug-in hybrid models.
Charging time depends on the charger type. Level 1 (L1) charging (the cable that comes with the vehicle) can take about 11 to 12 hours. Level 2 (L2) charging can take around 4 to 6 hours. Level 3 (L3), also known as DC Fast Charging, can take 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on connection type.
For more EV details, visit the "EV FAQ" page under the "Electrification" tab on our website.
Many drivers prefer Level 2 for faster daily charging, especially if you drive frequently. Level 1 can work for overnight top-ups on lighter driving schedules. Your best setup depends on your daily kilometres and where you park.
Many EVs charge fastest when the battery is at a lower state of charge. As the battery fills, charging speed often tapers to help protect battery health. Temperature and charger output can also affect speed.
Look for identifiers such as: eDrive badge on the C-pillars, eDrive lettering on the rear and engine cover, model name with an "e", and a charging socket at the front on the driver's side.
The BMW i3 finished production in June 2022 and is no longer sold as new.
Phone pairing, app features, and common iDrive questions.
BMW ConnectedDrive is a suite of digital services that can support navigation features, remote functions, connected safety options, and app-based tools. Available functions can vary by model, model year, and equipped options.
Depending on your BMW, the app may let you view vehicle status, send destinations to your navigation, manage charging information (for EVs), and access connected services linked to your BMW ID.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone, then open the communication/phone settings in iDrive and add a new device. Confirm the pairing code on both screens. If pairing fails, delete the old pairing from both the phone and the BMW and try again.
Many newer BMW models support software updates, including remote/over-the-air updates on certain vehicles. Availability depends on model year and equipment.
Maintenance planning, inspection questions, tire pressure resets, and common service items.
Regular service helps protect your investment and can identify potential issues early. We recommend coming in two to three times a year, or about every 8,000 km, for routine preventative maintenance such as brake fluid check, brake inspection, cabin air filter inspection, coolant check, engine inspection, engine oil check, tire rotation (if necessary), vehicle inspection, and wiper blade inspection.

BMW service intervals can vary by model, driving conditions, and the vehicle's condition-based monitoring. The most accurate guidance is your iDrive service status and the recommended maintenance schedule for your specific model.
After setting tire pressures to the correct spec, use iDrive to locate the tire pressure monitoring menu and select reset. Then drive for a short period so the system can learn and confirm the new reference values.
Many BMW models provide brake service status through the vehicle's monitoring system. If you notice squealing, grinding, vibration while braking, longer stopping distances, or warning messages, schedule an inspection.
