2018 BMW X3: back with more punch

Published on December 31 2017

In 2003, the BMW X3 was introduced as the first premium compact SAV (Sports Activity Vehicle). Today, this upscale vehicle faces a lot of competition, but the rivals are still in its rearview mirror. With bolder style, more advanced engines as well as more comfort for the passengers, the 2018 BMW X3 has a lot more to offer than the other vehicles in the segment.

With an extended wheelbase (5 centimetres), short front overhang and a new front fascia that features a muscular “three-dimensional” kidney grille and fog lights with an hexagonal design, the all-new 2018 BMW X3 transpires character. It comes with either the standard LED or the optional Adaptive Full LED headlights.

In the rear, the tail light housings have a three-dimensional look and the twin exhaust tailpipes contribute to the muscular appearance. The 2018 BMW X3 features the first ever factory-installed trailer hitch available in a BMW Sport Activity Vehicle. Buyers who opt for the M Sport Package will get the M Aerodynamic kit (front apron with larger air intakes, side skirt trim, and a diffusor-style rear apron) as well as the M Double-Spoke 20-inch wheels, and many great features in the cabin.

Finally, the 250 mm longer panoramic glass moonroof lets in more light and makes the cabin feel much more spacious. Contour lighting above the trim strip in the instrument panel is included with the available Premium Package Essential/Enhanced.

The 2018 BMW X3 is the quickest in the segment in Ottawa, Ontario

The all-new 2018 BMW X3 is offered with a choice of two engines. First, the BMW TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter 4-cylinder inline gasoline engine with a Twin-scroll exhaust turbocharger and electrically adjustable waste gate valve outputs 248 hp, which makes the X3 a powerful, yet efficient vehicle for daily commute as well as weekend road trips.

For more power and performance, the latest M Performance model, the BMW X3 M40i, comes with a 3.0-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder inline gasoline engine. It outputs 355 hp which makes it the quickest in the segment with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.8 seconds.

All models come standard with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with shift paddles. But the X3 M40i model’s transmission has been tuned to M Performance specifications.
